As a script consultant, Ellin Stein has spent many years helping writers prepare their screenplays for submission to studios, production companies, agents, and directors. Our Own Projects - Features – As a producer or script consultant, Ellin has developed feature projects for that were subsequently picked up by Zoetrope and Propaganda Films, attracting stars of the caliber of Denzel Washington and Jessica Lange.
- Shorts – Ellin’s own shorts have been shown at numerous international festivals, winning awards at four including the American Film Institute and have been broadcast in New York, L.A., Holland, Japan, and Nicaragua. One, Debate of the Dead, is in the collections of Electronic Arts Intermix in New York and Lux in London.
- Theater – Ellin has co-written four musicals (which she now realizes were actually pantos for grown-ups) that were produced in San Francisco and two more shows that were produced in New York at Theater for the New City.
- Journalism - A former theater critic for the San Francisco Chronicle and European Correspondent for InStyle, Ellin has written for publications including The New York Times, The Times, The Independent, American Film, People, the Village Voice, and Variety, and has contributed film reviews to BBC Radio 4’s Front Row. She is the author of Beyond A Joke: The National Lampoon, Saturday Night Live, and How Comedy Insurgents Captured the Mainstream, to be published by W.W. Norton in 2012.
- Non-fiction scripts – Ellin has written corporate videos, award ceremonies, and topical comedy for Radio 4’s The News Quiz and The Now Show.
